Ryan Kovacik,a medical student and a certified emergency medical technician, is facing drink driving and possession of stolen property charges after he drove off in an ambulance after his 21st birthday.
He decided to get on the wheel after celebrating his birthday with his friends and was called on two-way radio to return the ambulance, according to CBS.
vice president of Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, Andy Inge said: ‘The conversation was “hey we know you have it, please bring it back or stop where you are” and the person apparently answered.
After answering the radio he was pulled over by police on Sunday in Henrico County, Virginia.
Inge said he was ‘kind of surprised that he was actually returning it to the building, he was en route to the building when Henrico police spotted him based on a be on the lookout report.’
He has been charged with Grand Larceny and Kovacik faces the prospect of being kicked off his course.
